What is UpFront?

CACI/UpFront provides a fast, cost-effective means to upgrade Ingres ABF/FRS applications by automatically displaying them with a Microsoft Windows GUI look and feel. The underlying FRS application remains unchanged.

UpFront is a tried and tested solution, used by companies the world over for approaching 10 years.

Any legacy FRS application may be converted within minutes of installing UpFront.
The default translation can be enhanced with the UpFront editor and integrated to other windows applications via DDE and the UpFront command language.
CACI/UpFront is run from Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT, or Windows 9x and any Ingres server 6.4/03 or later.
UpFront has an inbuilt vt100/vt220 terminal emulator for running non FRS applications. This is integrated into the GUI display for seamless integration with the GUI rendition of FRS applications. The keyboard is fully mappable to match whatever configuration users are familiar with.
UpFront version 1.90 contains a rules based "global" editor to make editing even easier.
UpFront supports telnet and serial connections to the host machine.

UpFront can be used out of the box to create a fully working version of existing FRS program without any changes at all to the FRS application.

From this starting point you can use the editing capabilies of UpFront to massively enhance the GUI interface, making your application far more better looking and easier to use.

You can download the evaluation copies of UpFront from this page. To install the evaluation:-

1) Unzip the files to a temporary directory on your hard disk. You should now have three sub directories (disk1, disk2 & disk3) containing files.

2) Run setup.exe from the disk1 directory.

The evaluation will run for 30 days and has a limit on the amount of editing that may be carried out.

If you have a specific support issue and fail to find the answer here, take the following steps:
1. If you purchased UpFront via Compuer Associates then they should be your first line of support and you should follow your standard Ingres support procedures.
2. If you have an UpFront support agreement via CACI, then you should contact MarsJupiter LTD as we now cover such support agreements.
If you are running UpFront and require onsite assistance, we have found many UpFront customers have benefited from onsite consultancy from the UpFront Chief Engineer Martin Walker Whilst this is obviously chargable it is frequently very productive. Customers can be shown advanced features that reduce editing time as well as benefiting from direct contact and advice from the main author of UpFront.
