A good web page will contain images that both add to the look of the site, whilst downloading quickly enough so as not to detract from the usability of the site for visitors on a slow connection.
This page contains a list of resources for finding and creating images for your web pages.

Graphics Editors
You almost certainly have Microsoft Paint installed on your computer. This program should not be dismissed. It might be a crude editor, but for a variety of simple image editing tasks it wins out over packages with a thousand menu options.
In our experience there are so many pros and cons and sadly bugs in graphics editors, that it is a good idea not to rely on any single editor, but instead to complement some purchased products with some of the excellent free offerings.
