Assigning topics and including forums

In this section, you will continue to define the document Tutorial by assigning topics from the forums in the MarsJupiter bulletin board to the Callisto forums you created in the previous section.

NB -  if your document Tutorial is not already open from the previous section, you need to open it by selecting File and Open and choosing Tutorial  from the list of available documents.  Be careful to select the document with the green Callisto icon and not the folder Tutorial.

1: assigning the topics from a forum

Return to the Document window, select the MarsJupiter bulletin board and click the Edit button to see the Edit Board dialog that you used when you added the board to your document.  Select the forum Callisto and again click the Edit button to see the Edit Forum dialog:

Enter the following information:

• leave the Update Frequency at 0: this tells Callisto to read the forum with the default update frequency (the factory setting is 20 minutes);

• use the drop-down list to select the Callisto forum Software which you created in the previous section of this tutorial.  All topics that Callisto finds in the forum Callisto of the MarsJupiter bulletin board will be stored in the Callisto forum Software as well as in New Articles.

Click the Close button to close the Edit Forum dialog and save these changes (but do not close the Edit Board dialog yet.).

2: assigning topics from additional forums

There's no need to continue this process for every forum in the MarsJupiter bulletin board, but it is worth trying a few more:

• assign topics from the forums WotsIt4, NewProjects and Alex to the Callisto forum Software;

• assign topics from the forums Fun Web Sites and Booze Cruise in the Callisto forum General.

Try setting (different) shorter update frequencies for these forums - the minimum is 6 minutes!

3: including the forums 

Callisto will not actually read any of the forums in the MarsJupiter bulletin board until you specifically include them.

Select the forum Callisto again and click the Include button at the bottom Edit board dialog.  Repeat this for the forums

WotsIt4, NewProjects, Alex, Fun Web Sites and Booze Cruise

Hint - you can do this individually, or use the Ctrl and Shift keys to select all the above forums and include them in one go!

The Edit Board dialog should now look like this:

Click the Close button to save the changes you have made.

4: Summary

To summarize, you have:

• created and named the document;
• added a bulletin board and entered its Web address;
• created Callisto forums to organise the topics Callisto finds when it reads the board;
• assigned topics from forums in the bulletin board to your own Callisto forums;
• included every forum you want Callisto to read and specified how often Callisto should read it.

Your Tutorial document is now complete!  Provided you are connected to the Internet, you should see messages appearing as Callisto begins to read forums in the MarsJupiter bulletin board.
